LA SOULEIADO DE MARGARIDO
Abandoned in a boat off the waters of the Holy Land, the legend of Provence states that Saints Marie-Jacobé, Marie-Salomé and their servant Sarah, miraculously found their way to the shores of Camargue. There they lived, and there they were buried. In the 9th Century, a church was erected at the site of their tomb, and later replaced in the 12th Century... And so this spiritual pilgrimage allows thousands to partake in a consecrated ceremony whereby a boat  carrying holy relics and  painted wood  statues of both Sainte Marie-Jacobé, and Sainte Marie-Salomé are marched in a procession to the seas of les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer for a ceremonial blessing. The streets are filled with traditionally costumed Arlésiennes women and Guardians on horseback.
LES SAINTES MARIES DE LA MER
Journey into the customary procedure of dressing an Arlésienne with a step-by-step instructional video presentation... secrets of how the Arlésiennes women proudly carry on tradition, from their exceptional costumes to the art of hairstyle preparation. “Lorsqu'elle se coiffe, la femme accomplit l'acte le plus grand, le plus traditionnel, car c'est le geste à l'état pur depuis que le monde est monde.” ... “Once the woman has coiffed, she accomplishes the single most important act, the most traditional, for it is a geste directed to a state of purity, since the creation of the world.” “A l'origine, les danses avaient une signification magique, liée à des rites de caractère universel visant à la prospérité d'une communauté.” ... “Originally the dances had a magical significance tied to ritual universal symbols aimed at community prosperity.”
DRESSING AN ARLÉSIENNE Operated by the Famille Grau, LA SOULEIADO DE MARGARIDO is a Provençale folk dancing association; a group that travels from region to region, as well as other countries to share their traditions, and to honour their part of Provençe. Take a private tour with celebrity host Christian Lombardo through his unique personal collection of antique Provençale rancher tools... from a 12th century Camargue saddle, old fashioned scales, bull-bell collars or an early hand forged wrought iron cattle brander, Lombardo’s collection is as authentic as one can  hope for as a means of trekking back in ancient history.

Other occasions would have all three saints participate in a ‘Gypsy ritual’, hence including their servant, Sainte Sarah, the Patron Gypsy Saint. Experience it right here on LIM MEDIA QUICK VIEW.

With a regard for the safety and rights of animals, Lombardo explains that he is the first to defend endangered species, of which the bull is not. He makes it quite clear that in order to continue in the defense and preservation of the toro, ‘activists’ stance of prohibiting bullfights’ is a sure road to the end of the existence of the toro.
