As a child, hindsight would have me know that some of my best friends were gay.  Were they aware of their sexuality at the time?  Perhaps, but it was not something that mattered in our relationship.  It may be that they were too young to sport the prejudicial labels that cripple our society today.

It is senseless to sit in judgment of homosexuals.  One should not be penalized for their sexual preference, but rewarded for their good nature.  Before accepting an act of kindness or speaking with an individual, do you pause and say, “Excuse me,  are you taking home Heather or Harvey tonight, ‘cause I really need to know?”  Forgive me for my candor in saying that gracing you with the title of ‘Idiot’ would be complimentary.

The world is full of strange minded individuals; pedophiles, murderers, career criminals, just to mention a few.  Hence equating to a multitude of ‘uneducated bearers of some form of mental illness’ who choose to express their inner rage through different forms of violence... need I go on?

I can think of many examples of ‘so called Professionals’ who mask their inadequacies via... biased grading of students, misconduct within the clergy, patient-doctor confidentiality breach, child abuse or even cruelty to animals... the nature of the beast is such.

People prey upon the weak, as it gives them a sense of empowerment. If you take the time to look around, you will have no problem sighting the improprieties that encumber our daily lives.

If I favour German cars to your choice of American, does this mean we are never to ride together?  If I crave Chinese food to your choice of French cuisine, does this mean we must never dine together?  If I choose to marry and have children to your choice of  building a life with your partner, does this mean we can never socialize?  If I choose to adopt a dog to your love of cats, does this mean our behaviour must mirror such?

Today’s society is no different than when I was growing up.  With age, we become more aware of prejudice, whether it affects our personal daily lives or that of our neighbour.  During a lifetime, one is apt to experience some form or another.

Perhaps what is elementary to me, is unconscionable for others to grasp. I am thankful for the neutrality which I possess, and have tried to instill it in my children.  At a young age, they are well versed with life’s trials and tribulations -- for this is something that must be shared, as it can only enhance their journey.

I encourage you to lighten the hate from your heart, and inhale impartiality.  It is enriching and liberating.  If you can acquire this luxury, then you are truly blessed.
